UNITY AMONG PEOPLE

There are two types of unities among people, as follows.

(i) Unity in living
Unity and care for each other, among the people belonging to all regions, religions and sub sects is mandatory. This is the only way to make our living in this world peaceful and prosperous.

(ii) Unity in faith
Unity in faith is not mandatory. What best we can do is to learn to tolerate and appreciate each other for their individual faith. Many people have tried to impose their religion/faith by force on others in the history of mankind but have failed miserably.

It is in Quran - لَا إِكْرَاهَ فِي الدِّينِ ۖ قَدْ تَبَيَّنَ الرُّشْدُ مِنَ الْغَيِّ ۚ فَمَنْ يَكْفُرْ بِالطَّاغُوتِ وَيُؤْمِنْ بِاللَّهِ فَقَدِ اسْتَمْسَكَ بِالْعُرْوَةِ الْوُثْقَىٰ لَا انْفِصَامَ لَهَا ۗ وَاللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ [ There is no compulsion in religion; undoubtedly the right path has become distinct from the wrong; He who turns away from the forces of evil and believes in Allah has grasped a very firm handhold; it will never loosen; and Allah is All Hearing, All Knowing.] (Al-Baqara – 256).

What we learn from the above Quranic verse? The above Quranic verse teaches us that explain facts in a logical way and leave it there. To accept them or not is an individual choice and we have no role in it.

UMMA-TUL-ISLAMIA

In Islamic world, the term Umma tul Islamiyah (الأمة الإسلامية‎) or Millat-e-Islamia is used to describe the community of Muslims belonging to all sects. From an outsider's point of view, followers of all sects are Muslims because of their outward appearance and oral recitation of Kalima Tayyiba. However, the real thing that makes a person Muslim is his Sahih Iman (Correct Islamic Faith). If you do not have Sahih Iman, you have lost both the worlds. Your outward appearance as Muslim and your oral recitation of Kalima Tayyiba will not help you get salvation in Hereafter.

Some people consider that people belonging to all Muslim Sects will get salvation on the day of Judgment. This is not correct understanding because the first and foremost requirement is Sahih Iman. A person who dies without the light of Iman in his heart, lived in darkness in this world, will remain in darkness in Hereafter as well. His Islamic deeds will not be of help in his salvation.

It is in Quran - وَمَن كَانَ فِى هَـٰذِهِۦۤ أَعۡمَىٰ فَهُوَ فِى ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ أَعۡمَىٰ [ The one who is blind (about Sahih Iman) in this world, will be blind in Hereafter] (Al-Isra - 72)

Hypocrites during the time of Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) were also seen by general people as Muslims in view of their outward appearance and oral recitation of Kalima Tayyiba. But look at their reality in the eyes of Allah.

It is in Quran - وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَقُولُ آمَنَّا بِاللَّهِ وَبِالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَمَا هُم بِمُؤْمِنِينَ - [Among them, there are people who say that they believe in their Lord and on the Last Day (of Judgment) even though they are not believers.] (Al-Baqara - 8)

When we look at our current complex Muslim society, we realize that there are 73 Sects and innumerable subgroups in Muslim community. This division is based on differences in beliefs as it was already prophesied by Prophet Mohammad ( صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم ). (Abu Dawood, Ibn Majah, Ahmad, Tirmidhi, etc.). Therefore, there cannot be Unity of Aqeedah between these Sects for the simple reason that everyone claims and is adamant that what he/she believes is the right path of Islam.

It is in Quran - مِنَ الَّذِينَ فَرَّقُوا دِينَهُمْ وَكَانُوا شِيَعًا ۖ كُلُّ حِزْبٍ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ فَرِحُونَ [ Those who have divided their religion and become sects, every faction (sect) rejoicing in what it has, every sect is happy for what it believes (and considers it to be the right path of Islam).] (Ar-Room - 32)

Under the current scenario, there is a great responsibility on the people of Sahih Iman. While we explain Sahih Iman to people, it is also important that we develop trust and amity among all people of the world and ensure cooperation of everyone, be it the followers of Muslim sects or non-Muslims, in issues related to worldly welfare. Remember, Islam has taught us to care for our neighbour irrespective of his faith and ethnic background. Your good behaviour with others will help them to understand Islamic teachings in its proper perspective. And In Sha Allah, you will be rewarded for your endeavours abundantly in both the worlds.
